Our Story
Welcome to FriendShip Prague
FriendShip Prague is an English speaking volunteer network of Czechs and expats working together to provide friendship, support, and practical help to people in need across the city.
We are a community built on action. Each week, we organise food, clothing, and direct support for people experiencing homelessness and vulnerability in Prague, while also creating opportunities for connection, dignity, and belonging.
Our journey began in 2018 when a small group of volunteers met through Help Prague’s Homeless. What started as informal outreach quickly grew into something more structured and consistent. In 2021, FriendShip Prague was formally established as a registered non profit organisation, allowing us to expand our reach and support more people in a meaningful and organised way.
From a handful of volunteers to a committed network, the growth has been driven by people who simply showed up and continued to do so.
What We Do
Our work is practical, consistent, and community driven.
Each Friday, volunteers meet to prepare for outreach. Food deliveries are sorted, food bags are packed, clothing is organised, and supplies are prepared. This is the engine room of what we do.
Every Saturday, we go out and deliver direct support. We provide food parcels, distribute clothing, and spend time speaking with people. These conversations matter. They build trust and help connect individuals with services and support where possible. We currently support around 80 people each week .
Beyond outreach, we focus on building community.
We run English speaking sessions that help people improve communication and confidence. We organise movie nights and social gatherings where people can relax in a safe and welcoming environment. In the summer, we host barbecues that bring volunteers and those we support together in a more informal setting.
Seasonal work is a major part of what we do. Our Christmas parties provide a full day of food, warmth, and connection at a time when isolation is at its highest. Our sock appeal and winter drives focus on essential items that people on the streets urgently need, ensuring no one is left without basic protection during cold months.
Everything we do is built around one principle: practical help combined with human connection.
The People Behind It
FriendShip Prague was built by people who stepped in when they saw a need.
The organisation was founded and developed by Renni Sorce and Tiago Afonso, who built it from the ground up with very limited resources. Working through language barriers, personal commitments, and logistical challenges, they created a consistent and reliable support network for people in need across Prague. From using their own homes as storage, to securing donations, organising volunteers, and building partnerships, they turned a small volunteer effort into a trusted and recognised organisation.
Their contribution goes beyond operations. They established the culture that defines FriendShip Prague today.
At the end of 2025, Renni and Tiago stepped back from day to day leadership and now serve as honorary directors, continuing to support the organisation in an advisory capacity.
Today, FriendShip Prague is led by Co Directors Aneta Hejrovska and Christy Duffy who are building on that foundation. The focus remains clear. expand impact, strengthen structure, and continue delivering support to those who need it most.

The next phase is about growth and stability.
Securing a larger and more suitable premises in mid 2026 will allow us to increase storage, improve preparation, and expand our services. With the right space, we can run more structured programmes, increase capacity, and operate more efficiently.
We are also focused on building stronger partnerships. Increased corporate support will allow for more consistent funding and resources. Collaborations with schools and community groups will open up new opportunities for volunteering, education, and engagement.
With over 50 active volunteer and various grassroots activities spring up from groups within the Friendship team, lot of fun new initiates and opportunities to help are on the way.
